The Scholars Walk, a 2,200 foot long pathway featuring bur oak trees, groves, plantings, benches, plaques and lighted monuments, showcases the accomplishments of award-winning University faculty and students, and celebrates those honored with a permanent memorial. The Scholars Walk stretches from Walnut Street near the McNamara Alumni Center west to Appleby Hall and Pleasant Street. It is the major east-west walkway on the East Bank campus, complementing the beautiful Northrop Mall.
Among the national and international award recipients recognized are the University’s Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winners, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences winners, national academies inductees, and Rhodes, Truman, and Marshall Scholars. University award recipients recognized include the Regents Professors, McKnight Distinguished Professors, McKnight Presidential Chairs, Morse-Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Teachers, and the Outstanding Graduate and Professional Teachers.
This site was constructed following the Secretary of the Interiors Standards and the University Standards and Procedures for Construction and will continue as a state and national model of both historic resource management and outstanding campus design, while providing a necessary commemorative, functional and aesthetic gathering place for collegiate fellowship and social and academic exchange. |
