Twin Cities Campus
The University of Minnesota’s College of Veterinary Medicine serves our state’s citizens and animal populations by identifying and monitoring emerging diseases, developing new diagnostic methods, and preparing the next generation of veterinary scientists. This project will augment the work of the college’s Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, a national leader in protecting animal and human health.
The new Veterinary Isolation Facility will also allow the College of Veterinary Medicine to become a leader in infectious diseases research: attracting renowned faculty, securing more research grants, and facilitating collaborative research among departments. It will also allow Minnesota to protect the health of Minnesotans and livestock, create new diagnostic tests and surveillance systems, and develop new vaccines and treatments. The new facility will replace an existing, non-compliant isolation facility. With this new facility faculty will gain access to new grant opportunities for infectious disease research. Additionally, the facility will operate year round, which was not possible in the existing facility due to temperature control issues in the summer months. The facility will also add ABSL-2 and ABSL-3 research capabilities that do not currently exist on campus.
